People who will definitely not be president

Bill Frist will not be president. If the big compromise or his flip-flop on Stem Cells didn't kill his chances, this Martha Stewartian diversion definitely will.

I believe this makes Republican leadership 3 for 3 in terms of corruption. We have the president fighting an illegal war and filling posts with all his inept cronies. We have Tom Delay in the house literally selling his influence. And now Bill Frist in the Senate, caught red-handed for insider trading. Republican governance is massively corrupt and ineffective.

I'd be willing to bet that in 2006, we will run our campaign as one to end corruption. And thankfully, the Republicans will keep shooting themselves in the foot.

Speaking of Republicans who won't be president, how about Mike Huckabee, Gov of Arkansas? I'm not sure he's after it, but he was on Road to the White House giving a speech over the weekend. I inferred from what he said that he's an economic populist from the Christian right.

IMO, the most dangerous GOP contender would be Chuck Hagel. Imagine him, calling for an exit strategy from Iraq, in a match-up with a pro-war Democrat. He'd be Nixon in 1968, only stronger.

conservatives seem to be very quietly lining up behind Sen. Allen of VA. If George Bush could have a natural successor, it would be Allen--a popular dummy who just might appoint all the same neo-cons to run the country. I fear him more than any other Republican in 08.

I cannot imagine a scenario in which Hagel gets the nomination, same with John McCain. They'd be juggernauts in the general, but I don't think conservatives will ever let either of them through. Conservatives still dominate their side of the primaries.

Giuliani might make it through. Though he's a Republican, he'd still be a big improvement over W.

I don't know much about Huckabee. Is he for real?

Bill Bennett...won't be President:
