Rolling Stone Article

It is about Senator Brownback. He is every bit as crazy as you think, plus a whole lot of extra crazy.

However, I recommend reading the article for the insight it gives into the organization of the right-wing. In it's own twisted way, it is awe inspiring.

Despite being within the mainstream of America, Democrats have not held majority power for 12 years. We are nowhere near as organized as the other side, and we have lost bitter elections as a result. Real political power lies outside just the 537 elected officials in D.C. and it is well past the time when we need to recognize this. It will take a lot of time and money, and we should be willing to give both.

Thankfully, we have begun building the machine that will take back the country from extremists like Brownback. Groups like DFA are the first cogs in the machine. Though we may not be able to elect the next president, we can still be very influential in matters like electing Glen Maxey to chair the Texas Democratic Party. The stubborn existence of DFA, and the refusal of former Dean supporters to just "go home" might be the very first steps of turning the tide. We'll have defeats, of course, possibly decades of them. Republicans took 30 years to build the machine they have now, and they are still refinining it. We've been building our own for about 2 years. Think of how strong we'll be 4 years from now. A decade from now.

Rome wasn't built in a day.
